Nina Mallevaey and My Clementine set an untouchable jump off time to close Leg 2 of Major League Show Jumping Season 6.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — Nina Mallevaey (FRA) and My Clementine claimed the $340,000 World Wide Technology 5* Grand Prix on Saturday, taking the final win of Major League Show Jumping Leg 2 in Traverse City.
Olympic course designer Gregory Bodo set the 1.60m track for 29 combinations representing 11 nations at Flintfields Horse Park, with 14 fences and 17 efforts standing between the field and a place in the jump off.
One of the most influential questions came at fence nine, the ClipMyHorse.TV vertical topped with a delicate white plank. The fence caught several combinations early in the order before the second half of the field began to find the answer.
By the end of the first round, just five combinations had produced clear rounds to advance to the jump off.
Hunter Holloway (USA) was first to return, taking an early shot at the shortened track. Two rails left her on eight faults and ultimately fifth.
Natalie Dean (USA) and Mr. Boombastic followed and delivered the first double clear of the afternoon, stopping the clock at 46.03 seconds to establish the first fault free target.
Then came Mallevaey and My Clementine.
The pair immediately changed the pace of the jump off, attacking the track and crossing the timers in 40.56 seconds. More than five seconds came off the previous leading time, leaving the final two combinations with a clear target to chase.
“It’s only our second 5* Grand Prix together, and I never imagined she would jump a 5* Grand Prix even a year ago,” said Mallevaey.
Shane Sweetnam (IRL) and James Kann Cruz were next to take their shot. Fresh off representing Ireland at the World Championships in Aachen, Sweetnam returned to a Grand Prix he knows well, having already won in Traverse City during Seasons 2 and 4.
Sweetnam came within striking distance of Mallevaey’s time but could not quite find enough, stopping the clock at 40.97 seconds to move into second with one combination remaining.
“America has changed in the last five years. With Matt and Keean putting on Major League Show Jumping, it’s really upped our sport and we have the best combinations jumping here, and we’re seeing the top sport,” said Sweetnam.
Last to return was defending Traverse City Grand Prix winner Kent Farrington (USA) aboard Greya, the same horse he rode to victory here in Season 5.
Farrington set out after Mallevaey’s 40.56 and remained within reach of the lead heading into the final line. While Sweetnam opted for seven strides, Farrington chose eight, a decision that proved costly by the smallest of margins.
“To be sure to have the win, I probably needed seven to the last fence,” said Farrington.
Farrington crossed the timers just 0.10 seconds behind Mallevaey, leaving the French rider and My Clementine at the top of the leaderboard and denying Farrington back to back Traverse City Grand Prix victories.
For Mallevaey, the victory marks her first Major League Show Jumping Grand Prix win, adding a new milestone to her Season 6 campaign after opening the season with consecutive third place finishes in the 5* Qualifiers in Toronto and Traverse City.
“I’m really proud of her, and I’m also happy for the whole team. They work really hard for this, and I could never do this without them,” said Mallevaey.
The result closes out Leg 2 of Major League Show Jumping Season 6, with Mallevaey taking the final win of the week ahead of Farrington and Sweetnam
