Major League Show Jumping returned to Thermal, California, for the sixth leg of Season 5 at the Desert International Horse Park.
Set against the Coachella Valley backdrop, the venue once again combined elite sport with a unique West Coast atmosphere, where conditions and setting create a distinct competitive energy across the weekend.
Thursday: Ward Sets the Tone Early
The opening day immediately delivered a familiar result at the top. Mclain Ward claimed victory in the $182,000 5* Qualifier, presented by Visit Greater Palm Springs, aboard First Lady with a winning time of 36.01 seconds.
Nine combinations advanced to the jump-off, but Ward’s balance of strategy and efficiency proved decisive. The win marked a successful title defence in the desert and added eight valuable points for the Roadrunners, keeping them firmly within reach in the team standings.
Nina Mallevaey continued her standout season with a second-place finish, while Conor Swail secured third, reinforcing the depth of competition across the field.

Maccabi United delivered a composed and effective performance across both rounds. Double clear contributions from Mark Bluman and a decisive anchor round from Daniel Bluman secured the victory, even under pressure in the gold medal jump off.
The Archers finished with silver, while Helios claimed bronze, but the result carried larger implications. With this win, Maccabi United extended its lead at the top of the overall standings, creating a measurable gap heading into the final stretch of the season.

By Saturday night, the pressure had fully translated into performance.Laura Kraut secured victory in the $750,000 5* Coachella Cup, presented by Morrow-Meadows Corporation, aboard Bisquetta with a time of 36.27 seconds.
From a field of 11 jump-off combinations, only six delivered double clears, underlining the technical demands of the course. Kraut’s round proved just enough to edge out Mclain Ward by three hundredths of a second, while Skylar Wireman completed the podium in third.
The result marked Kraut’s first MLSJ Grand Prix win and moved her into the top 15 of the individual standings, adding another layer to an increasingly competitive title race.
